Bodrum, Bodrum. Songs are written about it: the
charm of the amphitheatre of white washed buildings around the twin bays
centred on the imposing medieval Bodrum
Castle, the relaxed people and atmosphere in the small streets, the
jumble of new and old buildings, with bars and shops full of the latest brands.
On the increasingly trendy and upscale harbourside boulevard restaurants,
boutiques, cafes, bars and clubs vie for space and a view of the harbour. The
summer buzzes with people, music and happy chatter. The serious shoppers head
for bargains in the old centre shops between the two bays, while other visitors
explore the fascinating Museum inside the Bodrum Castle and drink in the views
from the battlements.
Bodrum has something or somewhere to suit
everyone: daytime invites strolling around the shops, sipping cold drinks on
the town beach, plunging into the weekly markets of bargaining in the Tuesday
‘Cloth Market’ or relishing the abundance of the Friday fresh food market. The
cooler night air brings the crowds and the buzz to a town famous for its
nightlife and which rarely sleeps in summer. However, Bodrum town is the jewel
in the crown of the whole beautiful Bodrum peninsula, which has a wonderful
variety of bays, beaches, and former fishing villages transforming into upscale
modern resorts.
Bodrum Harbour is the gateway for the gulet
cruise to the green serenity and simplicity of the myriad bays and coves of the
Gulf of Gokova, or the serendipity of the Gulf of Hisaronu where villages,
bays, beaches and ancient sites are intermingled, fascinating those on their
gulet holiday. Bodrum is also the port of entry and exit for gulet boat
charters to Kos, the Greek Island at the centre of charms of the Dodecanese
Islands, a popular route for gulet cruises from Bodrum.
