Marmaris is one of Turkey's most popular resorts, which attracts many
foriegn holidaymakers, many of whom return year after year. It is a favourite
with families and young couples alike. Due to its popularity it has grown
enormously over the years; hotels rapidly filling the space between the green
hills and the azure seas. Lined with palms, the seafront has a typical
Mediterranean feel and is an ideal place for an evening promenade. An excellent
choice of shops, bars and restaurants line the streets while magnificent
charter yachts and gulets line the harbourside waiting for their guests.
The area around the harbour offers a taste of the character of the old
town with intersting narrow lines winding their way up to and overlooked by the
ancient castle, which is now a museum. The Netsel marina is reached by a small
footbridge, and was one of the first
largest,modern marinas in Turkey, and became the hangout of the jetset, who
moor their luxury yachts here. Cruise ships regularly visit Marmaris as well on
their route from nearby Rhodes. The gulet cruises depart from the harbour to
visit the islands and bays around the fascinating Mediterranean coast with its
many sheltered coves, bays and headlands.
Marmaris is the ideal port of departure for exploring
westwards to the Gulfs of Yesliova where the villages of Bozburun and Selimiye
nestle, and Hisaronu where a wealth of coves and bays, villages and towns await
the gulet charter guest. The scenery and variety, the clear water and small
coves make for a very relaxing and intersting week or two of gulet holiday,
with the added bonus of possible visits to the Greek Islands of Symi and or
